Mao ZeO’Rourke

You’ve probably figured out by now that I support the Constitution of the United States.  I support it all, in fact, even the parts I find inconvenient, which is apparently something of a novelty.  Certainly many of our elected representatives, the people who have actually taken an oath to protect and defend the whole thing, actively work to subvert certain parts of it.

I refer, primarily, to the 2nd Amendment, although the 1st is also being eroded…  And the 4th.  And 5th.  And 6th…

The entire bloc of 2020 Democratic Presidential candidates support the dismantling of the Bill of Rights to some degree, but none so vocally as former Congressman (and now former Presidential Candidate) Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke.  In his (ultimately vain) struggle to remain relevant, he has made public the secret desire of most of (if not all) the Democratic candidates to disarm the general public, by force if necessary.

In his headline-grabbing stunt, Candidate O’Rourke took a page directly out of Chairman Mao’s “Little Red Book,” where he said:

Every Communist must grasp the truth, “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.” Our principle is that the Party commands the gun, and the gun must never be allowed to command the Party.  Mao Zedong

Mao wasn’t an idiot.  He was a brutal, inhuman dictator, but he wasn’t an idiot.  He knew that an unarmed population was easily controlled under the threat of a few armed loyalists.  This is the kind of world that Chairman Beto is advocating.  A population stripped of their right to defend themselves against anything, even petty thieves, to say nothing of defending themselves against a government who will take more and more of the fruits of their labors and distributing them as they see fit – and growing fatter and more greedy in the process.  Serfdom.  Peonage.  Slavery.

You probably don’t need me to tell you that a confiscation plan such as the one being advocated by Chairman Beto will not pass Constitutional muster.  So let’s leave the legal aspects for another time, and delve into an area nobody else seems willing to go.

Common Sense.

Of course, there is nothing common about Common Sense.  Mr. O’Rourke certainly proved his own lack of it by saying that he expected everyone would willingly turn in their AR’s and AK’s if his plan were implemented.

That is, of course, ludicrous.  There are millions of good people who own these rifles, solid citizens, who know such confiscations are illegal and would not comply.  And if you think criminals would willingly give up their weapons…  They have no respect for our society and its laws, anyway, so what on Earth makes you think they’d give up their advantage???  Violent criminals love gun control laws.  It makes their job safer.

And yet, this is the world Chairman Beto and his ilk want to create for us.

Imagine what would have happened at that church in Texas a couple of years ago, if the private citizen who stopped the shooter hadn’t had his AR-15.  The shooter would have gone into the church unimpeded and finished what he started.

That’s the world Chairman Beto and his ilk want.  Victims.  Sheep.

This is also another, blatant example of how our government does things backwards every time.  The government never addresses root causes.

I’ve had enough of it.  I don’t understand why you haven’t.

(Note:  I started writing this post when my Facebook news feed was full of “Hell, yeah, we’ll take your guns” memes, and I had a chance to be inspired to sit down and write.  With the happy news this past week that O’Rourke has bowed out of the race, I almost scrapped this idea – but there is a valid point to be made, particularly since most of the remaining Democratic candidates hold the same views.)
